Peggy Logan Sondergard (b. February 12, 1929, Marion, Ohio; d. September 25, 2024, Wichita, Kansas) moved with her parents from Ohio to Salina, Kansas when she was very young. Growing up there, she met Wayne M. Sondergard, her future husband and fellow student at Kansas Wesleyan University. They were married in Salina on November 19, 1950.
At Kansas Wesleyan, she received a B.A. in piano and organ in May, 1951, and in 1973 she pursued graduate study in Music Education at Wichita State University. Her studies prepared her for a career in religious music and music education. She was Organist at University Methodist Church, Salina (1945-51); Vocal Music teacher at Roosevelt Jr. High, Salina (1951-52); 7th- and 8th-grade Vocal Music teacher at Allison Jr. High, Wichita (1952-3); Substitute Teacher for the Wichita Public Schools (1973-75); and Organist at Woodland United Methodist Church (1971-83, 1991-2000). She was also hired by a variety of churches and mortuaries to play for weddings and funerals. From 1945 until her passing, she was a member of the American Guild of Organists (and the oldest surviving charter member of the Wichita chapter, which began in 1954).
Her hobbies included sewing, knitting, creating table decorations for home and church functions, and playing music for the enjoyment of others.
Peggy was predeceased by her husband, Wayne, and is survived by her brother, Samuel Logan (predeceased by wife, Martha); by her children, Sidney (predeceased by wife, Ramona Ralston), Peter (Theresa), and Paula Hanna (David); by her grandchildren, Nicholas (Sheena), Tricia Pimentel (Joshua), Clint (Chelsea), Valerie (David), and Sean Hanna (Melissa); and by her great-grandchildren Harper, Kristian, Cooper, and Soren Sondergard, and Natalie, Emily, and Landon.
