June Dean’s Message

Dear AGO Friends,

Due to the restrictions of the coronavirus we have canceled the recital of Michael Caraher scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, at East Heights United Methodist. Michael is eager to play for us and we will attempt to have his recital as part of our program offerings next year. The Board and Long-Range Planning Committee will meet this summer to outline a plan for our 2020-2021 year.

I encourage you to renew and update your AGO membership through ONCARD as it comes due. If you are not a chapter member, consider joining and encourage acquaintances to become chapter friends. A link to ONCARD is provided in this newsletter along with a brief note from Gary Huffman, our treasurer and membership chair. As you are able please give a donation to the scholarship and recital fund.

Since this is our last newsletter until September, I want to thank all of the board members for their work this year. You are a joy to lead and have made my first year as dean a fine experience. Thank you to Jan Peak and Shirley Brandyberry as they complete their term was the class of 2020.

Every Wednesday and Sunday night at 8:00 p.m., a small group in my neighborhood meets outside in front of a large (city-lot) vegetable garden. We open our time with a round of applause for medical personnel, first-responders, and essential workers. After the clapping we sing the Doxology and one stanza of a familiar hymn. The gathering is growing and for me is a small symbol of the power of music to bring peace, community, and joy to a turbulent time.

May you also find moments of musical peace. Stay safe and well.

Joyfully,
Annette Lindal
