It’s the last day of May and I’m enjoying the sunshine from my patio. The school year has closed and summer is here! And with the beginning of summer, we wrap up another program year with our last event next week.
I’ve also come to the end of my two years as Dean for the Wichita Chapter. And let me tell you, it has been a joy to serve this chapter. I didn’t have the intention of being the Chapter Dean when I took the position of Sub-Dean two years ago. In fact, I initially didn’t want to take on the task. I felt like I didn’t know enough about the Chapter and the organization. But I soon found out there are many great people in this Chapter and at higher levels of the AGO. I learned quickly and learned of many great things that happen in the Wichita Chapter. I got to be part of a wonderful POE (even if it was in a neck brace!), judged many fine young pianists and organists as they auditioned for scholarships, led workshops, participated in two great fundraisers for the arts in Wichita (ArtDOG), and have begun the preparations for another special event to come in the next program year . To top off my term as Dean, I’m very excited to be attending Houston 2016 for our national convention in just a few weeks!
Elections for the board will be taking place June 1- 7. Details on how to vote will be emailed to membership who are eligible to vote. We have moved to online voting this year and I’m very excited! Results will be announced at the End-of-Year Picnic/Potluck on June 7.
After a busy year, you are all invited to attend our Picnic next week at Church of the Brethren. The picnic is a chance for us to celebrate another successful program year. We will also have the scholarship library open and on display for you to look at and make purchases from. A Potluck meal will follow (details on what to bring are below). After our meal, the library will still be available for further perusal and we will have some games and activities for all to enjoy. Additional details can be found further in the newsletter.
The June edition of the “Clarion” is the last in our 62nd year. The newsletter will return in September with the new program year. Don’t forget that you can keep connected with us on Facebook and our webpage. Your support and advocacy for the chapter are the two things that keep this chapter thriving. Don’t forget to invite a guest to the picnic next week!
